Secondary

Secondary Education at Joshua InstituteĀ

The Secondary classes offer an academic program for students in grades 7-12 who have an average to above average intelligence but struggle with a learning difficulty that hinders them from succeeding at grade level in 1 or more content areas. ADHD and executive functioning difficulties may also hinder their academic success. The Secondary classes are limited to a maximum class size of 10:1 student/teacher ratio. In addition to core academic subjects, the Secondary offers workshops for students to choose hands-on learning experiences that fit with their individual interests. Using a multi-sensory approach with socratic questioning, students learn to think for themselves and build success in learning how to think about problems from multiple perspectives. Students are evaluated according to grade level standards. We evaluate standards from a variety of sources in order to develop our Essential Learning Outcomes of what we want our students to know and be able to do.
