Elementary

Elementary Education at Joshua Institute

The Elementary classes offer an academic program for students in grades 2-6. These bright students who have an above average intelligence also struggle with a learning difficulty that hinders them from succeeding at grade level in 1 or more content areas. ADHD and executive functioning difficulties may also hinder their academic success. The Elementary classes are limited to a maximum class size of a 10:1 student/teacher ratio. Using a multi-sensory approach with socratic questioning, students learn to think for themselves and build success in learning how to think about problems from multiple perspectives. Students are evaluated according to grade level standards in order to monitor growth and inform adjustments to their individual plan. A variety of curriculum is chosen to align learning to these standards. We evaluate standards from a variety of sources in order to develop our Essential Learning Outcomes of what we want our students to know and be able to do.
